Cruise ship injuries may not be boat-specific

On Behalf of Meister Law, LLC | Oct 22, 2025 | Cruise Ship Passengers

If you think about the injuries that could occur while you are on a cruise, those that spring to mind might all be boat-specific. For example, falling overboard or being thrown to the deck in a rough sea. While those certainly do occur, many of the injuries that people suffer are not specific to boats.

The bigger cruise ships, in particular, are like mini-floating towns, with a diverse range of services onboard. Hence, most of the injuries you see people suffer while going about their daily lives on land could also occur while at sea on a cruise. Here are a few to consider:

Injuries related to the surfaces you stand on

If you can fall over in a locale in town, you can certainly fall over in a locale on a ship. That could be a store, a restaurant, a bar, a gym or even the medical centre. Hazards such as the lifted edges of carpets or un-mopped spills can catch you unawares and send you tumbling over. A broken tile around a swimming pool or in a gym shower could cause foot lacerations. Just as on land, the premises owner needs to address such dangers promptly to prevent them from causing injury to someone.

Injuries caused by other people

People sometimes get drunk and rowdy in cruise ship bars, just as they do on land, which can lead to fights breaking out. Shorter weekend cruises, in particular, can attract a crowd who are keen to party and consume large quantities of alcohol. Aggression can occur without alcohol, of course. Some people struggle to control their tempers after days or weeks in close company with someone they have taken a dislike to.

An injury can ruin your vacation and potentially have lifelong consequences, too. If you believe someone else was to blame,  you may want to learn what legal options are available.
